چکیده
The structural and magnetic properties of LaMnO 3 /LaFeO (LMO/LFO) heterostructures are characterized using a combination scanning transmission electron microscopy, energy-loss spectroscopy, bulk magnetometry, resonant x-ray reflectivity. Unlike the relatively abrupt interface when LMO is deposited on top LFO, with reversed growth order shows significant cation intermixing Mn 3+ Fe , spreading ∼8 unit cells across interface. asymmetric interfacial chemical profiles result in distinct properties. bilayer single hysteresis loop strongly enhanced coercivity, as compared to plain film. However, intermixed step-like loop, associated separate switching “clean” sublayers. Our study illustrates key role profile determining functional oxide heterostructures.

Exchange coupling in magnetic heterostructures.
Many structures consisting of magnetic layers separated by a nonmagnetic spacer layer show an oscillatory exchange coupling. This behavior is explained in terms of a simple model that shows that the Fermi surface of the spacer layer material is responsible for the oscillatory coupling. The periods of the oscillatory coupling are set by extremal spanning vectors of the Fermi surface of the space...
متن کاملAsymmetric reversal in inhomogeneous magnetic heterostructures.
Asymmetric magnetization reversal is an unusual phenomenon in antiferromagnet/ferromagnet (AF/FM) exchange biased bilayers. We investigated this phenomenon in a simple model system experimentally and by simulation assuming inhomogeneously distributed interfacial AF moments. The results suggest that the observed asymmetry originates from the intrinsic broken symmetry of the system, which results...
متن کاملFocused-ion-beam induced interfacial intermixing of magnetic bilayers for nanoscale control of magnetic properties.
Modification of the magnetic properties in a thin-film ferromagnetic/non-magnetic bilayer system by low-dose focused ion-beam (FIB) induced intermixing is demonstrated. The highly localized capability of FIB may be used to locally control magnetic behaviour at the nanoscale. The magnetic, electronic and structural properties of NiFe/Au bilayers were investigated as a function of the interfacial...
متن کاملChirality from interfacial spin-orbit coupling effects in magnetic bilayers.
As nanomagnetic devices scale to smaller sizes, spin-orbit coupling due to the broken structural inversion symmetry at interfaces becomes increasingly important. Here, we study interfacial spin-orbit coupling effects in magnetic bilayers using a simple Rashba model. The spin-orbit coupling introduces chirality into the behavior of the electrons and through them into the energetics of the magnet...
متن کاملImpact of interfacial coupling of oxygen octahedra on ferromagnetic order in La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/SrTiO3 heterostructures
La0.7Sr0.3MnO3, a half-metallic ferromagnet with full spin polarization, is generally used as a standard spin injector in heterostructures. However, the magnetism of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 is strongly modified near interfaces, which was addressed as "dead-layer" phenomenon whose origin is still controversial. Here, both magnetic and structural properties of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3/SrTiO3 heterostructures were i...
